ITINERARY IN FULL
DAY 1: MARANGU GATE TO MANDARA HUT
DISTANCE: 8KM/5MILES
TIME: 3-4HRS
Start your hike from Marangu gate and all entrance formalities are completed at the gate. Walk in a rainforest for about 3-4 hours, here there is a chance to spot blue Monkey in the forest.
Evening: Diner and overnight at your first hut Manadara Hut.
DAY 2: MANDARA HUT TO HOROMBO HUT
DISTANCE: 12KM/7MILES
TIME: 7-8HRS
Today the trek will be a bit slow because of altitude gain , now will be out of the forest to Moorland vegetation and here the snowcapped peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo can be seen before reaching Horombo
Evening: Diner and overnight at Horombo hut.
DAY 3: HOROMBO HUT MAWENZI RIDGE TO HOROMBO HUT
DISTANCE: 5KM/3MILES
TIME: 2-3HRS
Today is a day for acclimatization, here you will train your body to go high altitude and overnight in a low altitude, this will help your body to acclimatize with high altitude. The trek will take you to Mawenzi Ridge in a heath Zone and Back to Horombo Hut
Evening: Diner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
DAY 4: HOROMBO HUT TO KIBO HUT
DISTANCE: 10KM/6MILES
TIME: 6-8HRS
Today trek will be slowly because of high altitude in an alpine desert vegetation to Saddle , here the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi will be seen overhead. You will go bed early for a midnight wake up for summiting.
Evening: Diner and overnight at Kibo Hut.
DAY 5: KIBO HUT TO UHURU PEAK TO HOROMBO
DISTANCE: 21KM/13MILES
TIME: 10-12HRS
Today you have two parts to cover, from Kibo to Uhuru peak a trek of about 7 hours and from Uhuru peak to Horombo Hut about 5 hours. A trek to uhuru peak starts at midnight after your coffee and light snacks, will take about six hours to reach stella point enjoy amazing sunrise then for another one in a snow covered trail to Uhuru peak, highest point in Africa!. After taking enough photos Descend to Kibo hut for a short rest then to Horombo hut.
Evening: Diner and overnight at Horombo Hut.
DAY 6: HOROMBO HUT TO MARANGU GATE
DISTANCE: 20KM/12MILES
TIME: 5-6HRS
Today will be a long descend through heath then rainforest to Marangu gate. Here you will meet your driver, take you a lodge in Moshi for hot shower and Diner
Evening: Diner and overnight at a lodge in Moshi.
