DAY 1: ARUSHA/MOSHI – TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK – KARATU

08:30am: Pick up from a Hotel in Arusha/Moshi and drive to Tarangire National Park; picnic lunch on the way. Tarangire is home to some 300 herds of elephants that scratch the dry river bed to tap into underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the lagoons as they shrink in the dry season. It’s the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem – a smorgasbord for predators – and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and the peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed.    

Afternoon: Game drive in the park

Late afternoon: Drive to Karatu area for dinner and overnight at a lodge FB

DAY 2: KARATU – SERENGETI NATIONAL PARKS

Morning: Breakfast at the lodge

After breakfast: Depart for the Serengeti National Park; picnic lunch along the way. The Serengeti is Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park, as well as a world heritage site and recently proclaimed a 7th worldwide wonder. The Serengeti is famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing. Yet even when the migration is quiet, the Serengeti offers some of the most scintillating game-viewing in Africa: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle.

Afternoon: Game drive in Ndutu/Central area

Evening: Dinner and overnight at a lodge/tented camp FB
